Chester Culture were lucky enough to be part of the audience last night for Tip Top’s production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS at The Forum Studio Theatre.
Amazing.
The characters we know and love so well from this classic film absolutely came to life on the stage. These 6 actors took on their roles with so much enthusiasm, power and emotion- not to mention the lovely southern accents they had obviously worked very hard on.
The entire stage is transformed into Truvey’s Hair salon- and what a great couple of hours we all enjoy there! The gossip, jokes, happiness, sadness, love and tears shared by these 6 unlikely friends is an honour to be part of. It will also make you want to go out and get your hair/nails done hunny!
We are drawn to these ladies from the start laughing when Oiuser says “I am not Crazy!! I’ve just been in a very bad mood for 4o years” or when Shelby and her mama argue, fight, make-up and do it all over again… we are drawn in as if we are there in their small town hair salon riding this emotional roller coaster with them.
Truvy proclaims near then end of the play (with tears) “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion!”
Thats exactly what the actors achieve.
Laughter through tears.
A reminder of the importance of friendship and loyalty.
The actors are local and some including: Alison Pritchard (M’Lynn), Julia Bona (Ouiser) and Eileen Reisin (Truvy) have been in recent productions including “Bothered and Bewildered” at The Forum Theatre. Pippa Bona (Annelle), Annable Johnson (Shelby) and Jean Lawrence (Clairee) have all been in local theatre and this was their time with TipTop.
Director Gail Young has directed many plays for Tip Top.
