Anniversary Celebrations- Theatre in the Quarter

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS MARK TENTH SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THEATRE IN THE QUARTER

On Friday 25 September, Chester’s Theatre in the Quarter (TIQ) will celebrate a decade of creating high quality, original musical theatre for audiences in Cheshire, the North West and beyond.  The anniversary will be marked with a special performance at The Hammond Theatre, Chester featuring professional actors and members of the local community.  The celebrations coincide with a year in which TIQ has embarked on an exciting new phase of its development, taking on the curation of activity at St Mary’s Centre; garnering several award nominations for its acclaimed World War I commemoration project Over By Christmas and launching a Friends scheme – alongside continuing to deliver a highly successful programme of education and outreach work.

The Anniversary Concert will be a musical and theatrical journey through ten years of life-transforming performance, featuring the new 50-strong TIQ Chorus; Jigsaw, Quartz and Rewind Youth Theatres; students from The Hammond School and special guests drawn from a decade of TIQ productions.  TIQ is delighted to announce that Jigsaw alumnus Tom Hughes will join us for the celebrations, and will become patron of Jigsaw.  Tom’s film and television credits include Page Eight; Silk; The LadyVanishes; Dancing On The Edge and Agatha Christie’s Marple.  He has most recently been seen on television in the BBC TV cold war spy drama, The Game.

We have worked with so many professional artists, collaborated with other organisations in the region and have three youth theatre groups which are literally oozing with talent and energy. We are looking forward to entering our next decade with even more exciting opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience what we do.  Our successful summer schools this year began the process of breathing new life into St Mary’s Centre, and we look forward to working alongside many of the city’s organisations in raising the profile of arts in Chester.”
