Danny DeVito brings the Roald Dahl classic to the screen in this 1996 adaption which sees our heroine’s story moved from the UK to the US.

Matilda, a bright young genius ignored and mistreated by  her parents, escapes into books. As a result of her genius Matilda develops telekinetic powers. When Matilda starts school at Crunchem Hall, she befriends several children and learns of Trunchbull’s,  the school’s tyrannical principal, violent nature and overtly harsh punishments of the students. Miss Honey is a kind woman who adores her class and takes an immediate liking to Matilda.

With Miss Honey, can Matilda teach the evil grown-ups a lesson and find a happiness?

Roald Dahl on Film – Film Hub Wales and Chapter as Film Hub Lead Organisation, have put together a major, UK-wide programme designed to celebrate the most magnificent Welsh storyteller, Roald Dahl.  The programme will see an extraordinary array of film screenings and supporting activity delivered across the UK from the release of The BFG in July 2016, through to the centenary of his birth on the 13 September.

2016 is the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth. Storyhouse join the celebrations with a series of films based on and inspired by his writing: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate FactoryMatilda and Gremlins
