This Spring Guilden Sutton Players present, for four performances only, John Dighton’s ‘The Happiest Days Of Your Life’, directed by Robin Norrie.
The Happiest Days of Your Life is a comedy/farce set in Hilary Hall, a boys’ boarding school at some point in time around 1946.
The “Ministry of Devacuation” is organising the return of pupils who were evacuated during WWII back to their original schools. Unfortunately, some school buildings had suffered bomb damage meaning that schools were going to have to share premises.
The Headmaster of Hilary Hall has just received a telegram, telling him that he is to prepare for the imminent arrival of the pupils of St Swithin’s School. He and his staff are busy trying to work out where to accommodate all the extra boys. However, that is the least of their problems, as there has been a major administrative error…
A version of the play was famously filmed with Margaret Rutherford, Alistair Sim and Joyce Grenfell in some of the leading roles.
