Chester Dead Poets Society: Monday August 31st

Where? The Bandstand at the River Dee

When? 7pm until approx 9pm

Why? After two successful and enjoyable meetings this summer already, the cheerful and welcoming folk of Chester Dead Poets are meeting again to appreciate their favourite verses. Bring your favourite tipple and some of your favourite poems to enjoy a cool summer evening filled with readings, discussion and inevitable tangents of fun and frolic. (N.B. Not all poets have to be dead to be appreciated.)

Chester Theatre Club New Writing Workshop: Thursday September 3rd

Where? Chester Little Theatre, Gloucester Street

When? 7pm onward

Why? The CTC is launching a new drive to find more original writing this year, with three opportunities for budding playwrights to showcase their work on the cards already this season. This is the very first writer’s workshop, where you can come along and discuss your ideas for scripts and monologues, meet other writers and find out about future workshops and classes that the Little Theatre is running for the autumn and winter.

Fragmentia Variety Show: Thursday September 3rd

Where? Telford’s Warehouse, Tower Wharf

When? 7.30pm until 10:30pm

Why? If you’d rather be watching theatre than writing it, why not spend your Thursday night at this very unique variety performance from Influx Arts. Mixing lots of different community projects together, you can expect short theatre pieces, music and performance art from a wide variety of local talent.

Open Mic Night (Formerly Harvest Moon Open Mic): Sunday September 6th

Where? The Commercial Bar & Hotel, St Peter’s Courtyard, Northgate Street

When? 5pm until 8pm

Why? Owing to the sudden sale and closure of the much beloved Harvest Moon espresso bar, the open mic event has moved to the Cocktail Room upstairs in the Commercial. Come along to hear poets, storytellers, acoustic musicians and other creatives express their multitude of talents. A superb night of laid-back entertainment is always guaranteed.

Gladfest: Friday September 4th to Sunday September 6th

Where? Gladstone’s Library, Church Lane, Hawarden, Flintshire

When? Various events held all day across the three days

Why? Gladfest 2015 brings literature to life with a selection of esteemed author guests, some of whom are not only hosting talks, but running creative workshops for other writers to glean experience and new skills. In addition to this there are plenty of events for young people, a craft fair and a chance to look around the beautiful library itself.
