Festival of Diwali – Festival of Lights

Chester has been a flurry of activity over the last few months – lots of events to keep us all very busy!
This Saturday is no exception to the rule as Chester prepares itself for the Diwali Parade, Festival and Crafts day in the city centre.
Starting at 12 noon: Parade through the city centre
12:20pm: Dance display in Eastgate Street -just in front of The Grosvenor shopping centre
1:00pm-3:00pm – FREE WORKSHOPS at The Guild Hall, Watergate Street.
The workshops include: Rangoli Diwali art cards, Diya:Indian candles, henna hand painting, Indan head massage and Indian face painting. There will also be Indian food tasting for £1.50
Everyone is welcome to come along!
What is Diwali??
Diwali is also known as “The Festival of Lights”. This is a festival celebrated every autumn and signifies the vistory of LIGHT over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil and hope over despair.
This is the most important holiday of the year in India
(as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday to Christians)
This important Hindu festival and is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore and Fiji.
