On Saturday I had chance to take a peak around the Odeon building which as I’m sure you’re all aware is to form a big part of the Cultural Centre development. The tours were organised by the Leisure & Culture dept at the council.
As a relative newcomer to Chester (been here 4 years) I never got chance to visit the Odeon when it was a working cinema and so this was my first (and possibly last) chance to see the place in it’s current form. The place is, as expected, a bit love worn but the buildings deco features are well in tact, it is easy to see why the building was chosen for its new role.
One great addition was a viewing of a promo film put together by the Chester Film Co-Op / Chat Noir Productions which was a fun take on the history and memories of the building. I understand the film is winging its way to youtube and when it’s been uploaded we’ll send the link out for you all to see.
It’s apparent that the RE:NEW (why the colon? To me it kind of looks like we’re replying to a mysterious email titled “new”, Who sent this email and what are we saying back to them? Perhaps subject for another blog) team are keen to engage the public, get people involved and be transparent which I think is essential in a development as contentious as this. I look forward to watching the project grow and getting involved in any more of these events as the development moves forward.
