News from Tip Top Theatre….
As the season at The Forum Studio Theatre in Chester is in full swing and preparations for Bouncers and Snow White are well underway attention now turns to what is happening early in 2014! In March the smash hit Broadway musical Avenue Q is being brought to Forum and auditions are being held on Sunday 3rd November at 10.30am.
Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighbourhood. Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever elusive purpose in life. Like most of the characters Princeton is a puppet or a half puppet, operated and voiced by a puppeteer in this musical with outrageous songs by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx.
Director Rob Stevens said “Avenue Q is not your ordinary everyday musical as the cast is a combination of Humans & Puppets! We are looking for a very talented cast who can sing, move, act and some will also operate the puppets!”
There are a number of parts on offer for the show including Trekkie and Kate Monster and Rob is also very keen to hear from any Afro-American actors would like to audition for the part of Gary Coleman – “Yes, it’s that Gary Coleman! In the original production the part of Gary was played by a woman however I am very open to casting either a male or female in the role” said Rob “the part is a great role with some cracking songs to sing”
The show calls for a diverse cast as the production is very much in the style of Sesame Street and there is also a character called Christmas Eve who is a therapist who moved to America from Japan. Rob comments “This part is also a human part however the actress must be able to pass as Asian and speak with a Japanese accent.”
Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Score, Best Musical & Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart and promises a great night out.
